A Woolly Mammoth & a Sabre-Toothed Cat in Year 3!

Don’t worry – we haven’t really had a visit from these pre-historic animals!

For our English unit this half term, we have been using The Book of Bones by Balkan/Brewster for inspiration. We have focused on so many English features and devices, including: language for comparison, creating an informal voice through questioning, how to emphasise words using capital letters and italics and writing in the 1st person voice. WOW!

To link our writing to our topic in L.C.C about the Stone Age (who first lived in Britain?), we have chosen to write about Woolly Mammoths and Sabre Toothed Cats!

Did you know that a Woolly Mammoth is the earliest known creature to share DNA with a modern African Elephant? Did you know a Sabre-Toothed cat was NOT the Apex predator in their habitat?

Next week we are preparing for our Big Writes – they are going to be AMAZING!
