Year 5 Anglo-Saxon Myth

Our writing unit is to write a story about overcoming a monster. For our inspiration, we have used the myth story of’ Beowulf’ written by Kevin Crossley-Holland and Charles Keeping. This is an Anglo-Saxon myth story about the great hero, Beowulf, overcoming a monster. This writing unit links to our key question in LCC: Were the Anglo-Saxons really smashing? The children first watched an animated story of this myth before listening to the story. Whilst listening to the story, the children used their imagination to decide what the monster Grendel looked like. Here are some of their sketches.

Receptions Wow Writer of the Week

Every week in Oak and Holly class, we have a Wow Challenge that the children can choose to do. Last week, the activity was to take an object out of the bag and write the word. George was Holly class Wow Writer and Poppy was Oak class Wow Writer. Have a look at our wonderful work.
